KENDO

Kendo is a Japanese full contact martial art, originally descended from traditional japanese swordsmanship. In kendo, the steel sword is replaced by one made of bamboo, which is used to strike an opponent wearing protective gear. As a sport, kendo is a great way to develop oneself not only physically, but also mentally. At it’s best, kendo is a really fast game of chess.

SUIO-RYU IAI-KENPO

The core of Suio-ryu is in drawing and using the sword, but as a 400-year old comprehensive martial tradition, it also contains other skills: staff techniques, armed close combat, battlefield sword skills, naginata techniques etc. We train as a part of the Finnish branch, receiving instruction from the current head of the tradition. More info here.

Beginners course schedule, starting Sept 04, 2018:*
Tuesdays 19.00-20.00 at Martti school and Wednesdays 19.00-20.00 at Aninkainen school.

*If you are not a student, exchange student or faculty of Turku universities, we warmly recommend the beginners course of our affiliated Turku Kendo Club, Rendaino.

Varusteet/Gear

No special clothing or protectors are needed for the beginners course.  T-shirt and sweatpants are sufficient. You can borrow a shinai (bamboo sword) for the course.

Hinnat

Harjoitusmiekka eli shinai maksaa noin 25-30 euroa. Peruskurssin lopuksi suoritettavan kendon 6. kyun vyökoemaksu on 20 euroa. Tarkemmat maksutiedot saat harjoituksissa.

Suio-ryu

In addition to kendo, our club offers a change to practice Suio-ryu iai-kenpo. Note that there is no separate beginners course for Suio-ryu, so contact us if you're interested.

A shinai will cost about 25-30 euros. Fee for the kendo 6th kyu grading at the end of the beginners course is 20 euros.
